Catholic Charities Dallas’ Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) program is a long-term assistance and support services program that houses chronically homeless clients. EHV provides intensive case management to support, refer, and work toward housing stability.
When Antonio Moore first connected with Catholic Charities Dallas in March 2022, he had been homeless for years and was living in the Meyers Jeffries encampment in South Dallas. While living in the encampment, he met a member of the city of Dallas’ Street Outreach team who connected Antonio with CCD and the EHV program.
Antonio enrolled in the program, received a housing voucher, and found an apartment with the help of his case manager. However, Antonio experienced extensive issues with the property management team and his unit. There were a number of ongoing problems with his unit, and while repair requests were submitted, the issues weren’t resolved.
While Antonio was frustrated and wanted to leave, his case manager did not want him to break his lease and risk losing his voucher. With the support of his case manager and Catholic Charities Dallas, Antonio stayed until his lease was up for renewal while working to find another apartment. Once his lease was up, Antonio was able to move into a new apartment complex, thanks to the hard work of his case manager, his uncle, and his own efforts.
Antonio is the first EHV client who has not returned to homelessness after a non-renewal of a lease or an eviction. He is now permanently rehoused in a place that he is comfortable in and thriving. For more information about the Homelessness & Housing program, please click here.
