As a former educator, I have a sincere appreciation for our educational services team. The work they do each day is truly transformational. Their mission is to partner with parents to build a strong literacy foundation for their families to help lead both generations toward a promising future.
This year, our dedicated education team positively impacted and served 2,447 children and adults across Dallas, Collin, Ellis, and Kaufman counties.
We surpassed our target of serving 1,700 clients and more importantly we met our measured impact goals.
We enabled adults to achieve English proficiency, we facilitated young children in acquiring new language and cognitive skills, we equipped parents to excel as caregivers and educators, we enhanced school-age children’s literacy and swimming abilities, and we conducted over 780 developmental screenings for children under five to identify and address potential developmental delays and learning differences.
Additionally, our team recently wrapped up their final week of summer camp for students in kindergarten through 5th grade.
We welcomed 132 kiddos this summer who used their summer break to enjoy engaging activities focused on building strong reading skills and water safety.
76% of summer campers did not experience the summer slide and maintained or gained new reading skills by the end of summer.
88% of summer campers acquired new water safety and swimming skills by the end of summer thanks to our partnership with the YMCA.
Together We’re Better, our mobile parenting and early learning program, successfully served thousands of clients across 12 locations in four counties in various community settings including parishes, schools and community centers.
90% of Together We’re Better parents increased their parental knowledge and parenting skills by the end of the program.
We also served clients through our Together We Read program, which is a dual-purpose program that focuses on helping parents build English proficiency skills while also equipping them to be effective reading coaches for their school age children.
95% of the adults in this program graduated with a reading English proficiency at a 3rd grade level or higher through our program this year.
Our afterschool program served just under 100 under-served students this year.
They received homework assistance, academic support, and nutritious meals. 80% of the students increased their reading skills.
Through all of our education programs, kids can establish a solid foundation for early literacy and school success.
The benefits of reading, especially picking up those skills at an early age, are such a gift and will positively impact their lives forever.
While we are so thankful we can meet the needs of the families that come to us, a record-breaking year of 2,447 clients means that there are parents and children who need us now more than ever.
Together, we can do more and serve more! As the new school year starts, please consider supporting this incredible mission by making a gift today.
- A gift of $500 provides an outdoor art center full of supplies to provide hands-on learning experiences that revolve around creativity and self-expression.
- A gift of $375 covers five learning kits for parents to help them become trained to be a reading coach for their children.
- A gift of $50 purchases a child’s first home library which will kick-start their reading journey and help them develop a love of reading.
Those are just a few of many ways you can support the Educational Services mission.
Please review the impact sheet included in your email for additional opportunities and know that your gift truly makes a difference.
On behalf of all those we will serve with your generous gifts and kindness, thank you! I hope to hear from you soon.
Until then, take care, and God bless.
