March 2025
Today, I’d like to tell you more about the Option for the Poor and Vulnerable. Often called the Preferential Option for the Poor, this tenant of Catholic Social Teaching follows the commandment to “serve the least of these.” We are called to put the needs of the poor and vulnerable first.
A basic moral test of a society is to look at how its most vulnerable are faring. When you look around, how would you rate our community? Unfortunately, we still have hungry families and people living without homes. At Catholic Charities Dallas, we know there is a lot of work to do to serve those in need in our Diocese, and we invite you to serve with us.
Saint Dulce Lopes Pontes said, “The important thing is to do charity, not to talk about charity. We must understand the work with very poor people as God’s chosen mission.”
Join us as we serve Jesus in the poor, the hungry, and the stranger. I encourage you to download the Examination of Conscience in Light of Catholic Social Teaching from the USCCB. Take some time to reflect on how you are called to live out Catholic Social Teaching in your home and in your community!
Does your parish want to serve more people in need this Lent? Consider starting a donation drive or signing up to be a mobile food site location!
Do you have parish groups looking to serve? We’d love for your craft groups to join us at our Welcome Blanket events or for your mother’s groups to host a baby item drive for us!
We’re currently accepting children’s book donations to grow a little library at Joe’s Pantry, so kids can get a book when their families receive food.
Interested in learning more about Catholic Social Teaching or hosting a talk at your parish? Download the talk sheet and let us know what you are interested in!
We are so grateful for your help as we work to serve all in need. Until next time!
