Come craft with us!

First off, I want to thank you for your support with our Time for Giving campaign this month. We are so grateful for your help in supporting our programs that allow us to serve those in need in our diocese!

I am so excited to share about our new project with Refugee Services! We are calling the community together to craft welcome blankets for the families that we serve. Our goal is to collect 6×6 inch knitted or crocheted squares that can be sewn together to create beautiful patchwork blankets. Each blanket will be handed to a family being welcomed to the U.S.! The patchwork nature of the blankets will celebrate the diversity we have here in United States.

We also have two exciting opportunities to craft together with the refugee clients that we serve. Join us for “Crafting and Coffee” on June 12th and July 3rd here at CCD. You can bring your squares already made or come with materials to work on here. We will have coffee and sew together the donated squares. Beginners are welcome!

Not crafty? We are also looking for donations of crochet hooks, knitting needles, and size 4 (medium) yarn! Please send the flyer below to your craft groups, friends, and family who can help us create some beautiful welcome blankets for our families. We are also happily collecting other items such as already completed hats, scarves, gloves, and blankets of all sizes. The current in-kind needs for Refugee Services are also linked below.

If you are interested in more ways to help new arrivals to our country, we have two new volunteer opportunities! We need volunteers to help clients practice for their Citizenship interview. English-speaking volunteers are needed on Saturdays to help with these Citizenship Classes. We are also looking for volunteers to be a Friend of the Court and support unaccompanied minors and their sponsors during immigration court hearings. These volunteers should be bilingual in English & Spanish. All volunteer opportunities are linked below!

Thank you so much for sharing this information to your parishioners, friends, family members, and community! We could not serve, educate, or welcome our clients without your help. Until next time!
